Matthew Fraser is an author, academic, and journalist. He began his journalism career at the Globe and Mail writing about pop music, film, theatre, and television. He subsequently was a correspondent in Paris and London for the Montreal Gazette, and in 1998 joined the National Post as a columnist writing about the media industries. He was later appointed Editor-in-Chief of the National Post and also co-hosted a national, prime-time television show, “Inside Media”, on Canada’s public service CBC network. He was also a full-time professor in Ryerson University’s School of Radio and Television Arts.

Since returning to France in 2006, Fraser has been a Senior Research Fellow at the international business school, INSEAD, and lectured at Sciences Po and La Sorbonne-CELSA. He is currently a full-time professor of communications and international politics at the American University of Paris. He has been interviewed by and contributed to international media outlets including the The GuardianNew York Times, Wall Street Journal, CNN, The Economist, and the BBC. His previous books include Weapons of Mass Distraction: Soft Power and American Empire (St Martin’s, 2005) and In Truth: A History of Lies from Ancient Rome to Modern America (Prometheus, 2020). His new book is Monumental Fury: The History of Iconoclasm and the Future of Our Past, released in January 2023.

He completed graduate studies at the London School of Economics; Oxford University (Nuffield College); Université de Paris I-Panthéon-Sorbonne; and the Institut d’Etudes Politiques de Paris (Sciences Po), where he earned a DEA degree and a doctorate in political science.

He lives in Paris with two bichon frisés, Hector and Djery.
